Denver itinerary scene

4-day / 3-night itinerary

Four days in Denver: museums, Red Rocks, and neighborhoods

Arrive at Union Station and Lower Downtown (LoDo), spend a full day in central Denver and the River North Art District (RiNo), reserve the next day for Red Rocks, and keep the final morning near the route home.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

Union Station, central Denver, the Golden Triangle, River North, City Park, Cherry Creek, and Red Rocks occupy different parts of the trip.

Best length

4 days / 3 nights

Three nights provide an arrival evening, two full city days, and a departure morning for Denver's museums, neighborhoods, Red Rocks, and parks.

Stay

Limelight Hotel

Limelight Hotel sits near Union Station, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, and the Millennium Bridge, with…

Main activity

Union Station, museums, Red Rocks, and neighborhood evenings

Keep the first full day between central Denver, the Golden Triangle, and a nearby evening district. Reserve a separate transport and weather plan for Red Rocks.

Getting around

Walk within, transit between

Use rail, buses, and walking for central districts. Add rideshare or a rental car only when Red Rocks, outer neighborhoods, or a later regional extension requires it.

Denver Union Station at the beginning of a city stay
Airport rail, Lower Downtown (LoDo) blocks, dinner, and an early night all fit around Union Station without a car.
Denver's Golden Triangle museum and civic district
The Golden Triangle concentrates several important museums and the state capitol within a walkable district.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre at sunset before a concert
Red Rocks needs its own weather, transportation, entry, and return plan rather than being squeezed between downtown stops.
Murals and restored warehouses in Denver's River North Art District
A final full day in the River North Art District (RiNo) can include murals, galleries, food halls, breweries, and music venues.

Arrival

Arrive at Union Station and walk Lower Downtown (LoDo).

Check in, walk restored warehouse blocks, eat nearby, and save the biggest attraction for a rested morning.

4:00 PM

Check in

Stay at Limelight Hotel.

Limelight Hotel sits near Union Station, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, and the Millennium Bridge, with an on-site gallery, firepit, and Ajax Downtown restaurant.

6:30 PM

First dinner

Start with Corinne Denver.

Corinne serves modern American breakfast, lunch, and dinner near the Colorado Convention Center, with locally sourced ingredients, seafood, steaks, and cocktails.

Day 2

Walk the museum core, then choose one neighborhood night.

Use central Denver and the Golden Triangle for the day, then continue to the River North Art District (RiNo), Highland, South Broadway, or Cherry Creek rather than crossing the city repeatedly.

8:30 AM

Breakfast

Start with coffee, breakfast, and a realistic departure.

Eat before the museum or Red Rocks day begins; event schedules and admission windows can make a late breakfast awkward.

10:00 AM

Main activity

Walk the Golden Triangle museum cluster.

Choose the Denver Art Museum, Clyfford Still Museum, Kirkland Institute, History Colorado Center, or the capitol according to interests and current hours.

3:30 PM

Afternoon

Take a hotel or park break before the evening.

Return to the hotel, sit in a park, or choose coffee before dinner, a game, galleries, breweries, or live music.

6:30 PM

Dinner

Choose dinner at Guard and Grace.

Guard and Grace is a modern Downtown steakhouse serving wood-fired steaks, seafood, charcuterie, and raw-bar selections in a spacious glass-walled dining room.

Day 3

Red Rocks and a final Denver evening.

Use a daytime park visit, a concert, or both according to the calendar, weather, and transportation plan. Return to one neighborhood for dinner rather than adding another major attraction.

8:30 AM

Breakfast

Eat before leaving the city.

Choose breakfast near the hotel or along the westbound route, then carry water and only the items allowed by the venue or trail plan.

9:00 AM

Sandstone and stage

Choose daytime Red Rocks or build the whole day around the show.

Daytime visitors can walk the amphitheater and park trails when public access allows. Concert visitors should allow time for entry, weather, stairs, and the return trip.

3:30 PM

Afternoon

Allow for event access and the return trip.

A show night can consume the afternoon and evening. A non-event visit pairs more easily with Golden, Morrison, or a relaxed Denver dinner.

6:30 PM

Dinner

Choose dinner at Steuben's Uptown.

Steuben's Uptown serves regional American comfort food, including fried chicken, lobster rolls, and green chile, in a retro Uptown diner with a full bar.

Departure

Keep the final morning near rail or the airport route.

Choose breakfast, a bookstore, Union Station, or one short park walk instead of a distant attraction before a flight.

8:30 AM

Departure morning

Choose breakfast, coffee, or a short walk near the exit route.

Breakfast near the hotel, then choose Union Station, a bookstore, or one compact park walk according to the departure route.

11:00 AM

One last stop

Finish close to rail or the airport route.

Keep the final stop close to luggage and the airport route.
